Ahh, my mistake then.  Current/extra and testing were all active in my
pacman.conf.  I overlooked the part about needing to use one or the
other. Makes sense. I had the idea that by enabling testing (while
also having current/extra enabled) I was just getting a head start on
a package that had not yet been verified to be stable enough for
current/extra but that otherwise the dependencies would have been
the same. I see that it's a bit more involved than that and that the
dependencies might not be in current/extra yet. It's interesting
though that the installation process didn't check for the newer
version of gnutls.  Anyway, thanks guys. John
