Ok, I rebuild it:

but hesitate to release it until I don't know if the move to sqlite3
fries peoples databases with the meta data. Can someone please test the
version above AFTER s/he backuped his/her data. In case it doesn't work
out of the box, please convert the db as follows and report if it works
then:
#> cd ~/.gnome2/f-spot
#> mv photos.db photos.old.db
#> sqlite photos.old.db .dump | sqlite3 photos.db
