The issue with testing is that the site code doesn't know which *real*
repo the package comes from (Current or Extra).  This could be
hackily-fixed with an extra search query to find the Testing package's
counterpart in Current or Extra.

Sure you can.  The code has been in Arch CVS for a good long time now.
