Hi,

Imho, it evaluates the mime settings in /usr/share/applications
mime.cache which is created by the mime settings in the various .desktop
files. We run update-desktop-database on install of files with .desktop
files that contains a MimeType specification. This algorithm pics the
xpdf first. So it becomes default. Honestly that is just guessing but
other applications behave by the same pattern.
