It would be possible, but it would require a single fuse package for
each kernel. It is generally less work to have it in the kernel.

I hope there will be no "in the future". fuse kernel module changes are
ahead of the mainline kernel, and ntfs-3g actually depends on those
changes. I think either ntfs-3g guys should be slower or the kernel guys
should include it faster (changes are in -mm kernel).

FUSE 2.6.1 has some minor changes to the kernel module, but I think we
can live without them for now.
