Assuming you want a graphical emailer, Sylpheed is similar in format to Outlook Express, and handles Japanese very well. (Actually, they all do now.) Thunderbird is another popular one. One nice thing about Arch's pacman is that you can try and then remove a program easily, whereas in FreeBSD for example, programs are compiled from source, which can sometimes take awhile. The gmail format looks fine to me, I'm using muttng a texted based client.
