I tried this with my "new user" and it seems to have solved the problem _for that user_. Unfortunately, I've been unable to get the same to work for the enlightenment user or the KDE user. I've tried running gnome-font-properties and changing the setting for those users, but it doesn't help. I've also noticed that the same problem is visible in GDM (if "Session" is clicked for example). I've currently drawn a blank on what next to try. In addition to the above, I've tried Roman's suggestion of regenerating the font cache etc and I've also regenerated xorg.conf with hwd in case that had an effect, but no joy. I wanted to see if there were any settings in the KDE control centre, but since I can't see any of the text, it's impossible to do anything with it: at least in Firefox I can select the text in the window and it'll appear for a few seconds! Can anyone suggest where to go next? I am at a loss and getting close to thinking about reformatting the hard drive: I'd rather not go down that route, but if it's the only way I can get a usable computer, then I have little choice. Many thanks in advance, Al _______________________________________________ arch mailing list [email protected] http://www.archlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/arch
