There is such information. The name of the init image changed some
months ago, when mkinitcpio became the official tool. That's why the
name has changed.
When you update you see a lot of messages, and if you had read you
would have seen this.

No, you don't need to reinstall. Grub is flexible, you can modify it
from its menu.
Press 'e' and you'll go in edit mode. Choose the "initrd" line and
press 'e' again. Substitute "initrd26.img" with "kernel26.img", press
Enter, then 'b' to boot. Remember that this change is only temporary,
so you'll have to edit /boot/grub/menu.lst to make it permanent.
