Well they are free all the way, many great driver and even the chip maker has releases GPL drivers for GNU/Linux. You can get almost anything to work on GNU/Linux with some work, just stay away from broadcom and others that require ndiswrapper to work. I just replaced my old card with a USB 2.0 DLINK in that list, it cost me 25 USD and got it in two days, well worth it i must say. -- Guillermo A.
