Recently someone asked me about ripping a dvd into a backup using the 
x264 codec. My favorite ripping tool is Acidrip. I did some research and 
came up with a nice walkthrough here: 
http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/9124  The issue was that when you 
get down to select your video encoding type, x264 is missing. I checked 
my system and it does show that x264 is installed. From previous 
experiences with builds, it would seem that the Arch build of Acidrip 
perhaps is not done with x264 support. If this is the case, is there a 
reason for this? A lot of codecs now are open source, but some are not. 
Perhaps a licensing issue? If not, would it be a good idea to build in 
support for this popular codec into Acidrip? Just wondering.
