Recently someone asked me about ripping a dvd into a backup using the x264 codec. My favorite ripping tool is Acidrip. I did some research and came up with a nice walkthrough here: http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/9124 The issue was that when you get down to select your video encoding type, x264 is missing. I checked my system and it does show that x264 is installed. From previous experiences with builds, it would seem that the Arch build of Acidrip perhaps is not done with x264 support. If this is the case, is there a reason for this? A lot of codecs now are open source, but some are not. Perhaps a licensing issue? If not, would it be a good idea to build in support for this popular codec into Acidrip? Just wondering.
Thanks for any info on this, CtM _______________________________________________ arch mailing list [email protected] http://www.archlinux.org/mailman/listinfo/arch
