A friend of mine installed Arch recently. Then he told me he couldn't get k3b to burn DVDs. He added himself to optical group, and he wasn't able to burn as root either.
I've checked the k3b's console output, nad it said it couldn't connect to HAL. Okay, I said, start hal deamon at boot. He did. System itself ran better with HAL (he's using KDE), but k3b still refused to burn DVDs. Mind you, he installed the system using the very old .72 Gimmick install disc. So god knows what has been updated to what version since that, and something like this could have been expected. But, I would still like to help the friend out. Any ideas? p.s.
