* you cannot run one cloned desktop (same thing seen on both screens)
with 2 different sizes.

* you cannot have hardware 3d on only one screen.... except (and here
i'm not sure if this is valid for all drivers/hardware) you are
running 2 X servers on the two heads differently (:0 is internal :1
external... config examples are somewhere on the net... i cannot find
them atm ... and your card/chip should support dual-head)

* you can try to make your SXGA monitor use the XGA resolution and
with this get 3d hardware acceleration in X.

try Options "NoDDC" and "IgnoreEDID" in device section. with this, X
should send XGA size signal to the SXGA display and ignore DDC info
about what is possible and what not.

if i need 3d hardware accelereated, i use MergedFB (radeon supports
it... i dont know about i810) with a desktop size lower than the
pixel-buffer (what is for me 2048x2048). then 3d is running on both
screens... but this may be radeon specific.

good luck,
Damir
(i am using radeon driver on a ATI FireGL 7800... not really the same
thing like yours)
