Hi, I'm writing to the list because there is something wrong with the Archlinux french community. There are 2 websites which are doing the same thing : archlinuxfr.org and archlinux.fr . ( I'm sorry, my english is not perfect, I hope I'll make myself as understandable as possible ).
archlinux.fr is a fork of archlinuxfr.org because, as reported on the website, some archers wanted to be part of the project or integrate new projects with the web site by it was rejected by the author of archlinuxfr.org ( which seems to be maintaining it all on it's own ). This isn't good at all for the community, it is confusing for the french arch users, it gives the impression that the archlinux community is divided and not well organized, and conflicts of this kind make a bad working environment. Personally I'm not particularly in favor of either side but I think there is a serious problem with the maintainer of archlinuxfr.org. Like I said earlier, the website is maintained almost exclusively by Benoît Chesneau ( he gives himself credit on the bottom of the front page ) and he just attacked the other website on his blog : http://www.bchesneau.info/articles/2007/04/23/humeur-les-ptits-cons The article is in french, so here is a translated version of the most offensive parts : ============================================================= "[...] Oui il y a des ptits cons partout, c'est certains. Création basée sur le mépris de l'autre et par des personnes qui n'ont eu de cesse de mentir, transformer la réalité et insulter les gens et leur travail." Who am I talking about ? The little jerks that created archlinux.fr . A creation based on the compted of the other and by people who keep lying all the time, transforming the reality and insulting people and their work. "Ces gens on toujours pour volonté de détruire archlinuxfr au nom leur projet à eux après avoir ignoré et peu participé au développement réeel d'archlinuxfr." This people are always willing to destroy archlinuxfr in the name of their own project, ignoring and not participating in the developpement of archlinuxfr. (The author then goes on criticizing an april fools news on archlinuxfr.org that was saying both websites where to come back together . Ce poisson d'avril qui montre bien qui sont les gens d'archlinux.fr. Des petits avortons en mal de reconnaissance. Des gens qui n'ont que pour seule possibilité de vivre sur la dissenssion. This April fool is showing who are the guys behind archlinux.fr . Little runts (literally in the original) in search of recognition. People living exclusively on dissension. They are against it. "Je ne comprends pas en fait comment certaines personnes peuvent supporter un tel projet (en y allant, postant...). EN SUPPORTANT CE PROJET VOUS SUPPORTEZ DES ÊTRES VILS, MESQUINS ET FRANCHEMENT MÉPRISABLES." I can't understand how some people can support such a project ( by going on the website, posting in the forums ). BY SUPPORTING THIS PROJECT YOU ARE SUPPORTING CHEAP, PETTY AND SCORNING BEINGS. ============================================================= I think the situation lasted long enough. This post is a total lack of respect to the people that chose to dissociate themselves from the archlinuxfr.org project. I can understand the frustration of the author that people are forking the main website, but that is going way too far, you can't just attack people like that. We can't let someone have such an enormous power-trip in the name of the Archlinux community. Like I said, I'm not positioning myself on either side of this conflict ( I refused myself to contribute to any of the two projects while this situation is lasting ), but I think it's about time to root out the evil. I'm asking Archlinux developers to put some order in this situation, and also ask Mr. Chesneau to remove his disrespectful post on his blog.
