I'm not sure, if its the hardware problem (how could anyone be). But that card 
vendor never had good reputation. So try to use vesa - even it is slow in 
videos, etc.) If your graphics does not stuck, you will know for sure that it 
is the driver to blame. I had S3 pro savage card for some time and i used 
vesa mode:(. Thats all which i can help with, maybe someone else have exactly 
the same hw configuration but I dont think so because its very unpopular 
among linux people.
