I've just tested netcfg2 and it seems to add exactly what I've been looking for in the lovely netcfg (i.e. DNS search option and after the PRE/POST_UP/DOWN hooks). I installed the latest version from http://src.iphitus.org/netcfg-release/netcfg-1.99.27-1-i686.pkg.tar.gz, created a simple wireless profile and modified my rc.conf by replacing NET_PROFILES=(menu) with NETWORK=(menu). Unfortunately, this didn't do the trick: I had to add PROFILE_DIR=/etc/network.d/ for netcfg-menu to work. Thanks for your work, I'll let you know when I notice any futher bugs!
