<Palash> I'm a student from India! I'd like to work on admin Ui
improvements this gsoc
<rgaston> Palash: great! welcome! If you haven't already, a good place to
start is to clone the repo and get the software installed so you can start
to see where things are at
<Palash> Yeah I've cloned the repo rgaston!
<rgaston> Cool; once you're up and running, you should take a look at the
current admin interface and consider how it could be improved. Also spend
some time getting to know the application and how it works from an enduser
perspective
<rgaston> I would love to hear your thoughts once you've checked things out
<Palash> rgaston : I've seen the UI. I understand that a lay man would be
handling the admin panel.
<Palash> So we've to make it for a non - technical person
<rgaston> Yes -- that is correct; sys admin should be assumed to have some
technical awareness but not at the level of an application developer
<Palash> rgaston: Understood ! Have you checked my intro in the mailing
list?
<sindh> Hey..I am a student from IIIT Hyderabad and interested in working
on improving Spatial-Temporal relationships project as part of GSOC 2014.
<sindh> The ideas page dosent give a contact of the mentor for this project
<rgaston> Palash: yes -- looks like you've got some relevant experience w/
Django admin. this is good. I would love to hear further thoughts on how
the current interface might be improved especially re: workflows such as
editing application metadata
<sindh> It would be great if someone could direct me to the mentor. I've
previously worked on a very similar project called history visualizer and
would love discussing the project
<Palash> rgaston : I know many things about UI modification in django
because I know the django.admin source properly :) however it shall take
about a day to perfect all the workflow management in admin panel.
<Palash> rgaston : We can have a two-way admin panel.
<Palash> we can distribute actions to both levels and priviledges
accordingly.
<Palash> the lower level admin access would be given to the end user, it
shall be a less complicated workspace. she/he can manipulate tables easily
with that interface
<Palash> the higher level admin shall have the same features but with more
control variations and options
<Palash> rgaston : did you follow what i meant?
<rgaston> Palash: yes -- these sound like good idea; perhaps it would be
good to put some of these together in a post to the google group so that
the entire team can see them
<Palash> sure, I'll put up the chat transcript on the group :)

Summary:

ADMIN PANEL --> 1) LOWER LEVEL
                            2) HIGHER LEVEL

CSS AND OTHER PARTS CAN BE HANDLED AT LATER TIME ALSO.
