Hi Anshul,
We really don't have any experience building installation wizards, so any
ideas you have a greatly appreciated. If you are really serious about this
project, I'd write up a proposal with your proposed technologies and
thoughts on how to execute on this project.
What we're really looking for is a way to lower the bar of entry for
non-technical users. For that group of people, having a gui(for both linux
and windows) to assist in installing and loading Arches goes a long way.
For them, the command line is intimidating.
Here's what ideally the wizard would do:
1. Determine if the required software dependencies were installed
(Postgres, postgis, GDAL, etc...) and potentially assisting the user in
installing those dependencies
2. Downloading and installing the Arches codebase to their machine
3. Allowing the user to select from a list of packages to download and
install (if they so desire)
4. Allowing the user to configure the system with things like:
1. where to center the map
2. setting the admin password
3. whether or not to load test data
4. etc...
5. Finally, building the system and spawning a browser to view the site
Hopes this gives you a little more clarity.
Cheers,
Alexei
