I haven't personally used a desktop ssh connection, so you may be right. I 
don't recognize those errors. I'm not sure if it's possible with your 
environment, but if port 8000 is open to outside traffic it would be good 
to try visiting the site from a different computer to see if things run 
more smoothly...
