Hi Gemma

Welcome to the Arches community forum! I believe we in part addressed your
questions during our Arches webinar yesterday, but I’m writing to follow up
with a few more details here on the forum.

First, being open source software, the Arches software code is openly available
to anyone to take, install, and configure or customize to meet your particular
requirements, so there is no need to qualify or seek approval for its use.

You asked in particular about the application of Arches for museum objects and
intangible heritage (oral histories) to be mapped around Niger. Although to
date the majority of implementations of the Arches platform that we’re aware of
have been applied to recording heritage places, sites, or urban areas, we are
aware of some that have recorded moveable heritage objects, as well as the
locations where such objects have been found. I would recommend that you take a
look on the Arches Implementations page (which features some selected Arches
projects):
https://www.archesproject.org/implementations-of-arches/

and in particular looking at Global Digital Heritage, Maldives Heritage Survey,
and Early Watercraft to look at how they have recorded moveable heritage.

Regarding the ability to use Arches to record intangible heritage, we’re aware
of a few projects that have already done work in this area or are in the midst
of applying Arches to record intangible heritage now. For instance, I’ll direct
you to the following previous thread on this forum discussing recording
intangible heritage through current Arches projects in the Caribbean (and have
copied in Angela Labrador who has been involved in that work)
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!searchin/archesproject/intangible|sort:date/archesproject/eC3p-_aQLxk/6UJQmF_8BQAJ

Allison Lee also wrote a master’s thesis on applying Arches to record
intangible heritage in Hong Kong through Hong Kong University’s Arches
implementation focused on that city (and I copy her)
http://hub.hku.hk/handle/10722/241327

Hoping this is helpful in pointing you in the right direction.

Subject: [Arches] Query: new possible project but not necessarily related to
sites

Hi there,

I couldn't find a contact email address so that's why I'm writing on this Forum.

I would love to implement a heritage project on Arches in 2020 (it looks like
such a great tool!!) but I'm concerned that our project doesn't meet the
requirements as it's not necessarily to do with archeological or architectural
sites but rather tangible (museum objects) and intangible cultural heritage
(oral histories) geolocalised around the country of Niger (mapped). In some
cases some of the oral histories may be recorded near a UNESCO saite. Would
this project qualify? Is there a set of basic project requirements or some sort
of process that we would need to go throught to get our project approved?

Thanks in advance for your help!
