Thanks for the links, Gio. I read through the developer docs in particular, it looks like Denis is correct. Android devices can emulate an NFC card in various ways. Apple has not opened up their NFC stack for the same kind of use case.
If there is any desire to explore this further on Android, I would be very happy to knock up a simple proof of concept app that lets you pick one of the existing demo users and use that to tap in. I already have one of our NFC readers at home.
