I just had long call with Carolee at NOVA Manassas. She is the one who builds
the images for the Manassas campus computers. She is located on the Manassas
campus.
Some quick notes from the call
they have a relatively small number of images for the campus
they have basic image which they use to build all of the other ones. It just
has the basics including the OS and office etc.
they have their " ALL" build which as basically all the educational software
on it
They then have a few other bills for math, physics
in some cases they just use the basic and then hand install additional files
they have one build which goes on machines that are not connected inside of
the campus network at all. This is the bill that is used by the class that
teaches hacking and has a bunch of hacking tools on it. This build is connected
to the Internet outside only.
The procedure we will use to install our software is
I will simply send the software to Carolee. (after we check it out on our end
as best we can)
she will install on a machine and check it out
then she will put it on the images and distributed to the computers on campus
she did not see any particular arduous barriers to deploying it
More when we get closer
for a schedule I told her we were planning on something like the following
installation of the baseline data software in the next week or two
installation of Morphic near the end of the month (without any announcement
etc.)
This version will not have the ability to save
Probable update in January around the time we do the full announcement
the announcement etc. will be something that we will work out in conjunction
with the nova campus to fit a time that works for the campus
this version will allow saving
After announcement sometime we will have a contest to see if the students can
come up with different ways to use Morphic
I emphasize that it would help for people who have trouble using computers, but
we wanted to make it as something which is usable by every body. That
everybody find useful
She is in the process of seeing if she can just upload images of their drive
to me over the Internet at night. We can then use that to test our software.
