The bottom line is, there are tried & tested solutions for these problems that have worked over the past many years. We don't have to reinvent solutions only to figure out a few years later that the tried & tested solution is in fact the best one. The branching strategy is a good example where we followed the unconventional version within the branch strategy rather than the entire branch having a single version which is what everybody was/is doing. Now we are rectifying that mistake. Similarly, the tried & tested solution for webapps is not to patch parts of it, but to release a new version, or modify the existing version deploy. We don't have to invent a patching strategy for webapps.
