No matter what instructions you use they are all incomplete and need to be updated. What I did to fix the problem was to add another resource definition for jdbc/archiva to the [tomcat-home]/conf/Catalina/localhost/archiva.xml file.
Please feel free to update the wiki if you find that something is incorrect. I usually run Archiva with the plexus runtime, and Joakim's mention of a new database didn't connect sufficiently to make me think about updating the Tomcat docs. Even with that change, I'm still having trouble getting it to start on Tomcat. This all really belongs on the dev list considering that Archiva hasn't had a release yet... -- Wendy
