Hi ,

==================================================================================
Sail-World.USA .... Latest US and International sailing news
==================================================================================

<i>Welcome to Sail-World.Com's USA newsletter for 29 June 2009. </i>

In St Petersburg, Russia, the<b> Volvo Ocean Race</b> fleet have made their way
into the City and the public prizegiving has been held. In this issue we carry
more image galleries of the spectacular entry into St Petersburg, and from the
prizegiving.

As we said in the last edition of Sail-World, second place overall was an
outstanding effort for Ken Read and the US entry Puma Racing, who became more
consistent as the regatta progressed, and once again proved the old formula
that Performance equals Potential minus Mistakes. Puma Racing always had good
potential, but didn't really show it for the first half of the event, then they
cut down their mistakes, while others did not, and in the end were rewarded
with second overall.

Ken Read is one of the great ambassadors for sailing, and is the inspiration
for many young sailors. With this result, he will no doubt inspire many more.

All eyes now turn to the next race scheduled for 2011.

In Europe the 18fters have assembled for the inaugural <b>Mark Foy Trophy</b>
series. The first race at Carnac, France was canceled due to lack of wind.
Howie Hamlin (USA), is a last minute entry into a regatta which bristles with
the top 18fter talent from around the world. We will be carrying full coverage
on www.Sail-World.com

Next week, the <b>Star European</b> get underway in Lubeck, Germany, attracting
a fleet of 98 entries. In this issue we preview the regatta, and will be
carrying full coverage once racing starts on 4 July.

In Denmark the <b>Finn Gold Cup</b>, which has also attracted 98 entries gets
underway next week, in Copenhagen, Denmark. USA's Olympic Silver medalist, Zach
Railey is one of the favorites. Eight US sailors will sail in the event.
Reigning champion and Olympic Gold Medalist, Ben Ainslie, will not compete -
opening the door for a new world champion.

Last week, West Australian Bob Williams launched the<b>2011 Around Australia
Race and Rally</b> with an online newsletter to Sail-World's Australian Sailing
audience. It's not just a walk in the park, it's a 7500 nautical mile race, a
major time commitment.

Australia is a long way from USA, however this promises to be an amazing and
quite a unique event - maybe the closest opportunity you will have to sail an
event with similar characteristics to the Round the World race, in your own
yacht and own crew.

Entries have already exceeded 40 boats from 100 foot super maxis to
Transatlantic racers. The limit of 100 participants for the Race and 200
participants for the Rally are now looking a little small.

Enjoy!

<i>Good sailing!

US Editor</i>
