Colleagues, We know reports are an important consideration for many ArchivesSpace users and wanted to provide an update on current and future plans. The User Advisory Council Reports sub-team, comprised of Carolyn Runyon, Nancy Enneking, Alston Cobourn, Lydia Tang, Nikki Thomas, Brenda Burk, Jasmine Jones, and Laney McGlohon, ArchivesSpace Technical Lead, have been working together particularly over the last couple of months to review the current state of the ArchivesSpace reports, including where they need to be enhanced, and, in some cases, fixed or removed. For the 2.1.0 release, some unnecessary reports, identified by the sub-team as no longer needed because they are duplications of other reports, will be removed. For the 2.1.0 release, we have also put temporary measures into place to ensure that there is consistent, correct, and complete data in all formats of the other built-in reports. To make sure the community better understands how the reports work, we’re also working on adding to both the documentation and error messaging. This will help users understand how to get reports to run and what to do when they encounter problems. An overhaul of the code is needed to undertake the other enhancements to the reporting functionality that the sub-team and Laney have been discussing, such as being able to preview a report and the ability for users to dynamically create their own reports.
