Dear ArchivesSpace members, I am writing to report on the ArchivesSpace Governance Board 1st Quarter meeting, which was held in Chicago on Sept 8th. We were pleased to welcome new board members: * Nicholas Zmijewski, Industrial Archives & Library, representing the very small membership level * Peter Carini, Dartmouth College, representing the medium membership level * Gordon Daines, Brigham Young University, representing the large membership level * Tammy Dearie, University of California, San Diego, replacing Brian Schottlaender who retired in July We reviewed the continued dedicated work of the Technical Advisory Council and User Advisory Council and thank the members for their strong participation. The operations update highlighted progress in development, especially the contributions from several ArchivesSpace member institutions that sponsored or contributed important functionality. The board is also encouraged by the creation of and continued progress by the core committers group. The board is making progress on several important foundation documents. Work continues on the bylaws review and the organizational home agreement. In addition the board is working on reviewing and updating a mission statement, guiding principles and financial reserve policy. An updated membership agreement policy was approved. We are also initiating a review of the Registered Service Provider (RSP) program to ensure it meets the needs of ArchivesSpace members and other users. In closing, I am very happy to report that the ArchivesSpace membership organization continues to be vital and growing, with members making contributions to all facets of the program.
