As a person with a limited technical background, Vakil will discuss how he found a solution to a common problem using tools previously unknown to him. He’ll offer ideas for others to get confidence and learn more when wading into similarly unfamiliar waters. Webinar Resources: Vakil originally highlighted this workflow in a blog post for the Research Libraries Section of SAA. <https://www2.archivists.org/groups/research-libraries-section/step-by-step-instructions-for-batch-editing-barcodes-in-archivessp> There he includes all programs and resources he used in this process. Vakil will be using Python 3.7 in Jupyter Notebook as available in the Anaconda suite<ttps://www.anaconda.com/distribution/> and OpenRefine<http://openrefine.org/> in this demonstration. The Python scripts used in this webinar are posted to GitHub and available here: https://github.com/gwu-libraries/aspace-scripts/blob/master/jupyter_notebooks/nea_barcodes/Get_Top_Containers%20from%20One%20Collection-Anonymized.ipynb https://github.com/gwu-libraries/aspace-scripts/blob/master/jupyter_notebooks/nea_barcodes/Merge%20Two%20CSV%20files%20with%20a%20common%20data%20point%20for%20Github.ipynb https://github.com/gwu-libraries/aspace-scripts/blob/master/jupyter_notebooks/nea_barcodes/Post%20Barcodes%20Base%20Script.ipynb Presenter: Vakil Smallen is the International Brotherhood of Teamsters Labor History Archivist at George Washington University, a position he has held since April 2019. Before that, he was the National Education Association Project Archivist at George Washington University for 8 years. He received his MLS from the University of Maryland. Vakil's undergraduate degree was in English Literature and Language. Who should attend: Anyone interested in seeing a demonstration of a process for batch editing barcodes through the API. This webinar may be particularly useful for archivists who do not have a deep technical background and are looking for a simple workflow for making batch edits. Questions?
