My staff and I, our Director of Access Services and the Information Services librarian also have Ecopy on our desktops. The Bizhub is a color copy machine, a fax, a print and a scanner all in one. Therefore, we were able to eliminate our printer, scanner and fax machine giving us more workspace. But the biggest benefits of having a centralized work center with high quality and fast output is that it is a cost effective way to speed work flow and improve productivity. In most cases, we do not need a paper copy as we can scan the original directly into our PDF folder. Once the PDF file is created for each document, we can batch import a group of files into Ariel (we upgraded to 4.1.1) or deliver individual files as email attachments. We have had no problems getting the Bizhub and Ariel to work together. The quality of the copies, black and white and color, is super and the many functions of the machine will allow us to produce all documents needed for Document Delivery Services as well as for all of Access Services. With the Ecopy software, an easy to use searchable PDF creation and image editing software, we can manipulate documents created on the Bizhub or send documents imported into the Ecopy link on our computers from other sources to the Bizhub and create handouts, banners and other documentations to support Access Services (document delivery services, circulation, information services).
