Hi Kathy,

Because of port security, we were not able to set up a stand-alone Ariel
(server) behind our firewall. What we have done instead is set up two
machines (two licenses). One is a "client" machine behind the firewall,
on the regular, secured network. The other is the "server" machine and
it is in our DMZ (sort of behind a firewall, but far fewer security
restraints). The client 'talks' to the server machine and the server
machine 'talks' to the Ariel world at large. Every five minutes or so
(customizable), our client machine syncs up with the server machine for
sending and receiving items.

Obviously, it would be ideal if you could just use the one [server]
machine behind your firewall with specific ports open. That just wasn't
available to us because of our institutional IT security policy.

Just FYI: We're on Ariel 4.1.1 and use Infotrieve's Store & Forward
server (for delivery to us).

Subject: [ARIE-L] Ariel and firewalls
We are thinking about putting it behind a firewall since there are
directions for that. Has anyone had any problems running Ariel behind a
firewall?
