We have had similar results. When sending to a library that uses GMail, I email the article to myself at work from the Ariel machine, then I resend it to the requesting library from my Outlook account, using Outlook to attach the PDF. If the attachment is from Outlook, GMail is happy; if the attachment is directly from Ariel, GMail ain't happy.
