just in case anyone was wondering about the chroot problem..... when you cross compile for the sheevaplug using float=soft instead of float=softfp and a full recompile of all packages fixed the problem and i have finally created a stage1 chroot rootfs from the distribution packages!!!
may be a small feat for some people...but i thought i would share that if you compile with the wrong fpu and the wrong cpu/arch....you get Illegal ...errors with you try to chroot the rootfs. Dont fear the penguin!
