Peter,
  what's been confusing me (amongst other things) is that
system->add/remove software does not, for example show LibreOffice.
Instead it shows a bunch of plug-ins, fonts etc.   So "yum install
libreoffice" works, but I cannot see "libreoffice" under installed
softtware.   Strange.   This is more to do with unfamiliarity with
Fedora.   I'll stick to apt-get, err yum...
