In the past I used a gps module based on uBlox NEO-6M with a raspberry pi 1 
with no problem.

GPS modules are mostly: uart (or SPI) + pps on gpio, so I would say all modules 
should be fine.

More recently, an openSUSE member wrote this wiki page about GPS and RPi3:
