I think it's pretty simple: Gore doesn't want high fuel prices
to become an election issue. Democrats regularly help out/accept
donations from industries you would think that they hate. Same
goes for republicans. Getting back to the Dems, the Dem party has
accepted money from Hollywood while demanding regulation. Ron Brown,
the late Dem party chair, had worked as a tobacco lobbyist and as legal
consul for a number of despicable third world dictators. Ideology
is regularly subverted to electoral success or money.
