Rings producer, Shekar to make magic Deccan Herald
The Hollywood producer of the blockbusters Lord of the Rings and The Matrix, Barrie M Osborne, is collaborating with Indian film director Shekar Kapur for a movie Paani, which he feels has good prospects of making it to the Oscars. �The movie will highlight the Indian film industry at Hollywood like the Lord of the Rings did for New Zealand [where the trilogy was shot]. It will also show what can be achieved in India,� Mr Osborne said at a press conference here on Friday. He said he hoped the Paani project would take off this year. �Paani is a great story. Shekar has a great scriptwriter with him. I love the story. I love the take on it. And the visuals. It can go to the Academy awards,� said Mr Osborne, who is currently involved in the films Magnificent Fingers and The Alchemist. Paani is set in a future Mumbai where water is so scarce it becomes a currency. �Working with Shekhar Kapur for Paani will be a highly challenging task as we have to envisage a situation in a futuristic period and make it entertaining at the same time,� Mr Osborne said. To a query on the budget, Mr Osborne declined to reveal the exact figure but said, �Shekar wants to bring some portion of the finance for the movie from India. We want it to be an Indian film.� On whether he would take up projects with other Indian film-makers, Mr Osborne said he chose his projects based on the strength of the script and if a script narrated to him by an Indian film-maker was impressive, he would love to work on it.
