well.. this is in response to shri kamal's argument that rahman doesnt deserve india's highest civilian award..
well i respect ur views there and i feel ur entitled to it. i dont want to sound dogmatic but ur comparision of rahman saheb with naushad and the burmans and madan mohan et al falls flat as u claim then in that case the latter deserve more... i agree rahman as a film composer has miles to go to reach the pinnacle that naushad hit...but what ur grossly omitting is that rahman is not "just a filmi music director" and to be categorised so wud be doing great injustice to the genius. you forget the fact that after Pt Ravishankar , only rahman saab has had the audacity to retune both vande mataram and jana gana mana. even india's best musicians wud accept the fact that he's one of the greatest musical minds in the nation. the civilian award will be granted to him definitely not in the near future but i guess there is time and we all have to wait for that glory. further more the award shud be given to him because of his contribution in popularising indian music abroad. also another factor in favour of him is that just in the case of ms subbulaksmi he's also a UN global ambassador to eradicate TB in the developing world. rahman is not just a filmi music composer...i m sure in the coming future he'll def cut down on movies and start concentrating on musicals,symphonies etc. i rest my case and dont wanna further comtinue this stupid argument that he doesnt deserve bharat ratna becos of his age. it wud be sheer madness to suggest arr will get bharat ratna next year. and further more arr also has a few responsibilities and hopes to live upto jai rahman hussain ------------------------ Yahoo!
