Word is out that the film industry's much awaited casting coup has
finally taken place.

Ashutosh Gowariker has pencilled in actors Hrithik Roshan and
Aishwarya Rai to play princess Jodhabai and Emperor Akbar in his
magnum opus Jodha Akbar. The film jointly written by Gowariker and
actor and writer Haidar Ali has been cause for much speculation,
especially regarding its casting.

When contacted, the director of Lagaan and Swades confirms, "Yes,
Hrithik and Ash have consented to do my film. I had signed up
Hrithik almost two months ago. Since Aishwarya has been out of the
country, I could only clinch the final deal two days ago."

According to the director, the film will kick off in April 2006 and
will be a start-to-finish project. Says the director, "The film
revolves around the marriage of the legendary Mughal ruler Akbar and
Jodhabai and their love, which blossoms thereafter."

Pre-production is underway for the historical, which is estimated to
be around Rs 35-40 crores. In his quest for authenticity, Gowariker
had also paid a visit to Aligarh Muslim University to hold
consultations with historians. The film spans the life and times of
Akbar up to the age of 27, until the birth of son Salim.
