Word is out that the film industry's much awaited casting coup has finally taken place. Ashutosh Gowariker has pencilled in actors Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai to play princess Jodhabai and Emperor Akbar in his magnum opus Jodha Akbar. The film jointly written by Gowariker and actor and writer Haidar Ali has been cause for much speculation, especially regarding its casting. When contacted, the director of Lagaan and Swades confirms, "Yes, Hrithik and Ash have consented to do my film. I had signed up Hrithik almost two months ago. Since Aishwarya has been out of the country, I could only clinch the final deal two days ago." According to the director, the film will kick off in April 2006 and will be a start-to-finish project. Says the director, "The film revolves around the marriage of the legendary Mughal ruler Akbar and Jodhabai and their love, which blossoms thereafter." Pre-production is underway for the historical, which is estimated to be around Rs 35-40 crores. In his quest for authenticity, Gowariker had also paid a visit to Aligarh Muslim University to hold consultations with historians.
