Hrithik's Akbar & Aish his Jodha

Ashutosh Gowariker is film director

Surprisingly, your new film, Jodha Akbar, is a love story.
Don't be surprised! I always wanted to make one. But did not want to repeat the conventional saga of parents against love-lorn kids. Four years ago, an actor friend, Hyder Ali, gave me the idea of Jodhabai and Akbar's marital romance. I was too busy then, but the idea stuck on.

Have you started researching?
For over an year I have been reading just about everything available on them. Akbarnama has helped a lot but I am looking for an illustrated version. Perhaps you can help me find it! I know it's a daunting subject but by the end of the research, I guess I will be speaking like Akbar!

Hrithik will be playing Akbar...
He is a tremendous actor, lending himself to any character. He was brilliant in his last two films, Koi Mil Gaya and Lakshya. He has maintained his stardom but at the same time is experimenting with different roles. He has the stance and posture of a king. Hrithik will make a good Mughal emperor.

And Aishwarya is Jodhabai?
Jodha has to be elegant, dignified and a classic beauty. Aishwarya fits the bill.
