Aamir Khan's 'Mangal Pandey - The Rising' opens to full houses in India

Mumbai, Aug 12 (ANI): The much awaited Aamir Khan-starrer Mangal Pandey- The
Rising released
today to full houses across the country.

There was expectedly a rush fo tickets at most cinema halls in the country,
given that Khan is
appearing on screen after a gap of four years.Going by the unprecedented
advance booking, the
movie is set to break all box-office records.

With Mangal Pandey, which is based on the theme of patriotism similar to what
was shown in his
previous movie Lagaan, Khan will again be seen taking on British colonial
rulers.

Exhibitors are reported to be in a jubilant mood over the film's release. The
film, which is
released with a record number of 400 prints plus all over India, has generated
a big
pre-release craze, with tickets for all theatres and multiplexes sold out for
the first four
days of the film.

In order to accommodate the extraordinary demand for tickets, the cinema hall
managers have
scheduled the film in a record number of shows. They have been having a tough
time coping with
the demand for tickets ever since they opened the advance booking for it on
Monday.

Because of the fact that the next week-end is a festive season with
Independence Day, Raksha
Bandhan and Parsi New Year, falling one after the other, everyone is expecting
the theatres to
be packed to full capacity in the coming two weeks.

It is a period film based on the historic mutiny of Indian Soldiers in 1857.
Besides Aamir
Khan, who is playing the title role, the film also has the country's latest
queen bee, Rani
Mukehrjee and would have been a sort of a casting coup if Aishwarya Rai had
played a part,
which is now being played by, Amisha Patel.

Other stars include foreign actor Toby Stephens. The producers of the film are
Bobby Bedi and
Deepa Sahi, besides her director husband Ketan Mehta.

The public is also reported to be looking forward to seeing the movie because
of its elaborate
costumes and opulent sets, reflecting 19th century India.

Music maestro A.R. Rahman and the veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar have scored the
music and
lyrics of the movie. (ANI)
