hey guys
here is some background info about three of the stars of the Rahman
3D concert

i got it from newsletter of charindaa

In this issue we are focusing the spotlight Shankar Mahadevan and
Unni Menon and Sivamani.

SHANKAR MAHADEVAN was born in Mumbai and from a young age started
training in Carnatic (South Indian classical) music. Learning from
gurus like T R Balamani and the late Tara Devi, he also received
training from the Marathi composer Srinivas Khale. The amalgamation
of both styles of music and being in Mumbai made it natural for
Shankar to sing for Hindi films and documentaries. While he began
his foray into the music world singing small pieces for a number of
movies, his rendition of the classical songs in the movie Hum Dil De
Chuke Sanam and his vibrant songs for Dil Chahta Hai announced him
as a singer of note. He has gone from strength to strength. His hit
album Breathless captured the imagination of the public with both
Shankar's lyrics and the music. Shankar Mahadevan is now an
integral part of the Bollywood scene where he has composed for
numerous films as part of the Shankar-Ehsan-Loy team.

UNNI MENON is another talented young musician from the South Indian
state of Kerela. Like many others from this state, Unni Menon
studied music in Kerala, but moved to Chennai and made his mark
rendering some of the smash hit numbers for Tamil movies. He has
sung for many films and music directors, but some of his most
memorable numbers are the ones he has sung for A. R. Rahman in Roja
and Mr Romeo.

SIVAMANI ANANDAN's name conjures images of charismatic and vibrant
drumming. Following in the footsteps of his father, he has taken
drumming to great heights. His dazzling showmanship on an array of
percussion instruments has meant that he has been popular and in
demand by the music directors in India. But his talent has taken him
beyond the boundaries of the Indian music scene. His mastery of
drumming has seen the release of a fantastic fusion album Drums of
Fire along with James Asher, which critics have claimed is
Sivamani's most colourful and rythmic works to date.
