Hi Friends, As far as I know, relation between AR Rahman and Harris Jeyaraj is very professional. Both have due respect for each other. Harris has openly said that ARR is his guru.
As far as music goes, I believe Harris is heavily inspired by Ar Rahman. When you listen to some Harris songs you cant escape the feeling that u have heard it before somewhere (probably an earlier rahman song). May be bcos Harris uses almost the same orchestration as ARR does. He also uses lots of samples and loops used in earlier rahman songs so sometimes it sounds like a rehash of 2-3 ARR songs put together. IMHO, given a situation for a song in a movie, Harris would most probably lookup to earlier ARR songs for reference and inspiration. All said, I still think Harris is a talented MD but no way can he be compared with ARR. ARR is a trendsetter; Harris is one among many who follows the trend..
