your friend might be wrong. Its easy for any person to use a statement that ARR is inspired by him or another. I feel that ppl would say that not many Indian could have afford to pull all the tracks of the renowned western composers so can make baseless statements. It is sad that ARR even after doing so lot our own ppl try to degrade him. Would no other great composer on this earth does not create a note that would be similiar to another.
ARR did WOHE & Raaga Dance was somebody so great to appreciate those master piece, what was wrong with BOSE, these for western audience was out of the world score and we are finding or making research to pass a comment he is inspired by some western score. If ARR is only made up of being inspired by others he would not have inspired others.
Think of a simple thing almost all MD in India are inspired by ARR, they are trying to repeat what ARR did decade back. it would be of no surprise after few years HJ / Yuvan / Pritam / Vishal / Himesh redo what ARR did in BOYS or YUVA. Remember that these two albums were very futuristic.
