Fireworks in January

If Mangal Pandey – The Rising took time to hit the theatres, Aamir Khan's next release, Rang De Basanti, is likely to arrive earlier than scheduled. Yes, the film has been pre-poned by one week. Initially scheduled for a January 20 release, its producers, UTV, have decided to bring it on January 12 now.

"Yes, we have locked the date [January 12] for two reasons. One, it makes good business sense to arrive in mid-January since the school and college examinations are slated to begin in February. Since Rang De Basanti is targeted at the youth, it would be foolhardy to release the film during the examinations," director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra informs me, "The second reason being, January 12 coincides with several festivals. And the holiday period should prove advantageous."

Also slated for release on Thursday, January 12 are Subhash Ghai's Shaadi Se Pehle, Sanjay Gupta's Zinda and Nitin Manmohan's Tathastu. Get set for fireworks in January now… it's battle royale, without doubt!
