Glad to hear many are enjoying RDB. I am hearing much more positives
than negatives about this soundtrack not only here, but in other non
ARR forums. Like I said before, I am enjoying it for what it is
after getting over initial expectations. It's a diverse soundtrack
tied closely to the script and I'm sure ARR worked hard on it. I
have no problems with anyone going for this music because it's not
their kind of music. The music in RDB is meant to be more easily
digested than his usual compositions and are geared towards today's
trend of what's popular. At the same time, it's also a very unique
soundtrack that stands apart from the rest of the stuff out there.

Regards to not living up to Rahman's standards or our expectations as
has been reported here and especially in PB's review, are we talking
about quality? I feel it's very subjective. For some people, RDB is
a gem, for others, it's a let down. What exactly are we expecting
from Rahman with each soundtrack? Some people like heavy
orchestration and his usual signatures, and of course, this
soundtrack lacking some of those things is going to disappoint them.
We certainly can't expect Rahman to please everyone, especially since
he's working on a film soundtrack where the director also plays a big
part in determining what kind of music is needed for the film, the
situations in the film, etc.

I feel that this soundtrack will be a huge success if it reaches good
sales, has some songs topping the charts, and if the music enhances
the film viewing experience. Whether it ever achieves anyone's
expectations is extremely a subjective debate. The fact that many
people are liking the music says a lot. The fact that some are
disappointed also says a lot, but I don't think it says anything
significant about Rahman's abilities as a composer today. The man's
creativity is unbound, such incredible range and diversity of his
music with each soundtrack. It's hard pressed to find anyone with as
much originality and creative spark as this amazing composer.
Whether the songs appeal to you on an emotional level or level of
taste is purely subjective.

I find PB's review to be quite bent towards not living up to his own
expectations of this soundtrack. There's nothing wrong in that, but
I do feel that our expectations at times interfere with our ability
to enjoy his soundtracks for their uniqueness and creativity and
originality. Nothing wrong in being critical or not liking his songs
for whatever reason, but I think we should also check in with our own
expectations too.
