Here, popular director S.J. Suryah describes the experience of working
with A.R. Rahman in his own exuberant style.
He is unbelievably humble. Many have seen him be a shy and reluctant
guest on shows. He carries the aura of his super genius in a light and
down-to-earth manner. The awesome impact he has had on the music scene
seems to have left him unfazed. Because to him music is a journey
inward and all the trappings of wealth and fame are superfluous.
Many also think that he is not approachable easily. True, but once he
strikes a rapport with you, he is the most decent guy one would get a
chance to meet. He has made Indian music cross the seas and be heard
in many international venues. I am really proud to rub shoulders with
the guy who gave the chant of Vande mataram a modern yet dignified tone.
