Paint it Yellow (Rang De Basanti) is the upcoming musical by the master maestro A. R. Rahman. Just pressing the pause button to his periodic, epic and biopic scores for the past few years, he has got a big brake to breath easy and tie up some youthful tunes to portray his contemporary music, at last.
The title 'Paint it Yellow' is enough to speak for the kind of music it requires and Rahman makes no mistake to paint all his colors of music on the yellow canvas. This time around, Rahman's music is Young and Yankee…
The title track "Rang de Basanti" is a bhangra number getting Daler Mehendi back in business. Tune into this real bouncer from Rahman with ding ding spin, making it a whole new bhangra recipe.
"Paathshala" sounds like no cradle school, but one-powerhouse track with rock solid beats that will clean up all the earwax. The voices seem to recite the lyrics, instead of singing a song and that's what makes it sound so different. Thanks to the modern Mozart A. R. Rahman for writing this fresh piece that really stands up in the crowd of all the outdated popcorn like pop songs. While, it puts me back to my old line that Rahman's music is Young and Yankee.
Track no. 4 "Tu Bin Bataye" is one of my favorite picks and it deeply surprises me as to how simple notes can build a ring of melody in the good hands of A. R. Rahman. Listen up for the combination of bass and chime that cast an ever-lasting effect on the listener.
If Rang de Basanti is a bouncer then "Khalbali" is a sure googly from Rahman, who is full of surprises. The line and length is Arabic styled and the surprise of the box is that it has got Rahman himself on the stage, with the mike, rendering real Arabian vocals, way to go! Once again, this Arabian addition shows Rahman's feat in creating rock hard music. All thumbs way up for this particular track that should earn him the new pronoun: A. R. Rahman: the Arabian Mozart!
Warm up, with a dramatic track titled "Khoon Chala" joining the track list, which begins with soft piano and ends with a driving parade rhythm.
"Paathshala (Be A Rebel)" is one BP raising, heavy dose of power-packed music, quiet an inventive remix version of the original piece. Some digital beeps and booms give more calories to this track coupled with powerful chorus that on my mark prompts me to give it a well-deserved A+.
Up next, is "Luka Chuppi" (Hide and Seek), the much awaited track adorning this Album. Sung by the songbird Lata Mangeshkar, a voice beyond compare that has rendered every human emotion through out the decades, filling every soul with her soulful voice and A. R. Rahman soon catches up with his warm charm. A memorable duet where the voices too play the hide and seek along with the notes and the music is as golden as the voices are. The lyrics by Prasoon Joshi, is worth mentioning, as he pens to portray a mother's call towards her son to get back home, and the words are well placed to bring a level of timelessness, as do the classy notes of Rahman.
The tail ender "Roobaroo," is a kind of guitar based track that will ask you to put on the forth gear and take your four wheeler for a joyride. Count on Rahman scoring his hat trick by singing three songs in a row. This time, the duet of Rahman and the newfound Naresh Iyer give the kind of stimulation that you only find in a hot cup of tea or coffee.
It's a treat to listen to A. R. Rahman, who garnishes this album with a delicacy of variety music, brushed with color and contrast. Creative music knows no boundaries and Rahman is the sole example of that and this album is one of the many examples set by him. Rahman leaves no notes unturned to prove that in the wide world of music, he is the brightest star in the sky.
