Well, I feel thats its basically because Rahman's fans are in general more musically mature than others and typically not the masses ( lower middle class and middle class). So his fans have access to technology and radio mirchi(hey, that rhymes) and so naturally they look out to obtain Rahman's albums without any price (piracy). I too was doing this.
Sorry Rahman.. But I have realised the impact of that after growing with this GROUP... and started buying his albums..infact older ones too.. Its worth the money though they are usually high priced( which is one strong reason that contributes to piracy)... This is one thing that always worries me..to reach the masses..any product needs to be cheaper..but Rahman is increasingly getting recognised as belonging to the RICH and POWERFUL (High quality stuff always does that)... still a common man can connect himself to Ilayaraja more easily than Rahman..(Thats a GREAT achievement!!), though we all know what Rahman is... May be lots of articles on Rahman in regional and local magazines should change that....and concerts like karaikkal one.. contemplation continues...
