Basanti coloured with Rahman’s songs
New Indian Express Lose Control or Ding ding ding ding
One has heard these tunes on radio and TV. These numbers from A R Rahman’s
latest Rang de Basanti have topped charts.
Rahman with his new creation has recreated magic once more. And what’s more,
it feels like a new one. Even though he has experimented with new singers and
tunes, the album is already a hit with youngsters.
Rang de Basanti the title track, has bold vocals of Daler Mehndi and
contrasting serene vocals of Chitra with perfect pop-bhangra, catchy tune and
rhythm. Ding Ding Ding.., from this song has caught attention.
Although, one has heard Daler Mehendi’s voice quite often but Rahman gives a
new feel to it.
Paathshala is doing its rounds on all channels on TV and radio. It has a
techno beat and is a peppy number.
Rahman has done it again with an excellent work of music arrangement and good
vocals. Fresh voice of Naresh Aiyar is the new find of Rahman. The song starts
with ‘Lose control’ and the song is targeted at youngsters. Aamir Khan rocking
to the beats of the song on television adds to its appeal.
4th track by Madhushree and Naresh, Tu Bin Bataa is a very touchy and romantic
number. The song makes a mark with its subtle use of drums and bells at which
Rahman is best. The song soothes ones mind and soul completely.
Khalbali, supposed to be Rahman’s favourite in the album is a mixture of
Arabic and techno along with some use of traditional instruments.
Rahman’s vocals leave a strong impact and one can listen to his typical high
pitch notes with background harmonies. Arabic lyrics are written by Nacim. The
song grows upon you as you listen to it.
This one called Khoon Chala has Silk Route lead vocalist Mohit who has done an
excellent job. The song is very nostalgic in its feel. The symphony and harmony
makes one feel emotional as one listens to it.
If you think that Paathshala is very rich, after listening to Paathshala -be a
rebel, one will realise what Rahman can do!!
Blaze of Saathiyaa fame (Hum Dum Suniyon re-RAP) has done a fabulous job in
the song by his rap and the lyrics of the rap. Listening to this after the
original Paathshala makes one simply fall in love with this one.
The nightingale of Indian music industry, Lata Mangeshkar does not need any
words of appreciation. Rare combination of Lata’s mesmerising voice with
Rahman’s strong vocal chords make the song ‘alive’ for its listeners. This song
about mother and son reminds one of songs from Zubeeida. The notes flow very
smoothly and the song is sure to appeal all kinds of music lovers.
Lalkar is a fierce patriotic recitation done by Aamir Khan himself with a
chorus. It is not a routine patriotic song which people pretend to like. It
instills some kind of inspiration in the hearts of listeners.
Prasoon Joshi has done a good job with its strong lyrics.
The album sees a lot of use of guitars and less of drums and Rubaru is no
exception. It is a westernised theme and the tune is very catchy.
Rahman’s and Naresh’s voices are very contrasting and give a good variety. It
is a sure favorite in the first take.
The album grows on you as you listen to it. This is typical to all of his
albums. Rahman’s creations get better with time and differ from previous ones.
Only similarity is the magic that he always creates.
The album is a must buy for all music lovers.
