Unlike Aamir Khan's The Rising, Rang de Basanti has opened to crowded cinema halls and warm reviews in Britain. The details of the films premiere in Mumbai were splashed in the media here. Of course, Alice Patten has become the basanti "flavour" of the society and film world here.

BBC Online gave the movie a five-star rating and said, "Accomplished and universally appealing, this is the way Bollywood films should be made". Time Out London, which is distributed in hundreds of thousands said, "A compelling and admirably brave piece of political Bollywood cinema".

Radio Sargam.Com commented that the narrative of the story "is filled with fun, laughter and mischief, which everyone will enjoy."
Exhibitors are sure that the film will break a few box-office records.
