Film director Maniratnam’s request for a steam engine for shooting a song sequence of his latest film ‘Guru’ has been conceded. The steam engine has left New Delhi and is expected to chug its way to Hubli within the next 48 hours.

The shooting on the Koppal-Somapura rail route under Hubli Division of South Western Railway (SWR), has been cut short from three days to two - April 28 & 29.
The National Rail Museum, New Delhi has spared the steam engine. After having reached Bhopal on Tuesday morning, the steam engine will come to Hubli via Itarsi, Nagpur, Pune, Miraj and Londa. From Hubli, it will be taken to Koppal via Gadag.
Railway sources told Deccan Herald that the SWR authorities had also decided to spare a diesel locomotive engine as sought by Maniratnam as a standby. The Operating Department of railways will decide within one or two days the timings of the shooting on the 30-km stretch between Koppal and Somapura.
The railways collect Rs 1.5 lakh as security deposit to provide special trains for film shooting purpose. Since Maniratnam had sought a steam engine, the film crew had to bear the expenses of coal and other add-ons required to run the engine. “In all probability, the steam engine is expected to arrive in Hubli on April 27,” the sources said.
